Man claims doctor, Presence St. Mary's Hospital didn't do enough to save his daughter's life

Medical malpractice 03

CHICAGO — A father is suing Presence St. Mary's Hospital and a doctor, saying the health care providers didn't do enough to prevent his daugter from suffering seizures and cardiac arrest while she was in the hospital for treatment of pneumonia.

Gene Kaericher, as special administrator of the estate of Bobbie Jean Batts, filed a complaint on Feb. 16 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Samuel Hayward and the hospital, alleging that they failed to provide proper medical care to Batts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges Hayward and Presence St. Mary's Hospital failed to monitor Batts' condition to prevent her from suffering cardiac arrest and seizures.

Batts died in February 2015, according to the complaint.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount greater than $50,000. He is represented by Edward G. Proctor, Jr. of Munday & Nathan in Chicago.
