Wife of man who died at nursing facility say doctors failed to review abnormal test results

Medical malpractice 02

CHICAGO — A woman is suing Aperion Care international, Satwant Kindra M.D., Ermin A. Arriola M.D., and Mohamad Atassi M.D., citing alleged insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries and negligence after her husband died at the defendants' rehab facility.

Celia Barrera, as special administrator of the estate of Tomas Barrera, filed a complaint on April 7 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants alleging they failed to provide proper medical care to Tomas Barrera.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges Barrera sustained serious physical injuries which resulted from a cardiac arrest. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to provide adequate medical treatment to Barrera when the results of his blood lab work showed dangerous levels of potassium and other issues. The complaint claims the defendants failed to review or respond to those results in a timely manner, leading to Tomas Barrera's death.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount that exceeds the jurisdictional limits of this court. She is represented by Arturo Jauregui of Jauregui & Associates P.C. in Chicago.
