Business owner accuses two people of leaking information to the press to embarrass him

CHICAGO — A businessman is suing Brian Weaver and Susan Hofer for alleged conspiracy and tortious interference.

Starkman Inc., which does business as Illinois Appraisal Services Inc., and Lawrence J. Starkman filed a complaint on Sept. 22 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging Starkman's business and reputation were damaged in 2013 when information was made public concerning charges filed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. 

Starkman holds Brian Weaver and Susan Hofer responsible for allegedly contacting the Chicago Tribune and providing information about the ongoing investigation to embarrass him.

The plaintiff seeks damages in an amount greater than $75,000, plus punitive damages, court costs and any further relief this court grants. He is represented by James J. Lessmeister and Jimmy A. Samad of Lessmeister & Associates in Chicago.
