CHICAGO — A woman is suing Torrey Refrigeration Inc. and Torrey USA Inc. for alleged design defect and product liability.

Maria Pabon filed a complaint on Jan. 25 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging she sustained serious physical injuries on Jan. 25, 2016, when her right hand allegedly was pulled into the grinding mechanism of a meat grinder made by the defendants. Her hand allegedly needed to be amputated. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to properly design and manufacture their meat grinders to prevent her hand from entering the receptacle.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000 plus court costs and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by Michael L. Gallagher of Burke Wise Morrissey & Kaveny LLC in Chicago.
