CHICAGO — A group of customers is suing several catering companies, citing alleged breach of implied warranty and negligence.

Vasilios Avgerinos, Katerina Avgerinos, Angelo Douros and other plaintiffs filed a complaint July 2 in Cook County Circuit Court against Metropolis Ballroom of Arlington Heights Inc., Elegante Cuisine Inc., Gladstone Bakery LLC and The Third Synthesis Inc., claiming the defendants violated an Illinois statute by serving food that was of poor quality.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs ate the allegedly contaminated food prepared and served by the defendants on July 3, 2016.

The plaintiffs said the defendants allegedly breached their contractual obligation to provide food and beverage that was free from contamination, virus and bacteria and not likely to cause illness.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek a judgment in the amount of $22,897, attorneys' fees and the cost of the lawsuit. They are represented by Peter Vlantis of Vlantis Law LLC in Chicago.
