CHICAGO – A suit filed against a River Grove Walgreens alleges the pharmacy failed to warn a customer of fatal drug interactions between medications she was prescribed.

Austin Schettko, as special administrator of the estate of Michelle Patti, filed a complaint on Jan. 8 in Cook County Circuit Court against Walgreens, and related entities, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on June 14, 2013, Patti died as a result of fatal drug interactions between some of the prescribed medications filled by the defendants' pharmacy in River Grove. The suit states Patti had been prescribed the medications by two separate physicians and the defendants did not contact the physicians to notify them of the known drug interactions.

The plaintiff seeks more than $50,000, plus costs of suit. He is represented by Evan M. Smola of Hurley McKenna & Mertz PC in Chicago.
