Vedder Price PC issued the following announcement on March 26.

Vedder Price is pleased to announce that Ananya Hindupur, a first-year law student at the University of Michigan Law School, and Sahiba Chopra, a first-year law student at Vanderbilt University Law School, have been named Diversity Scholars in Chicago and New York, respectively. This is the fifteenth year Vedder Price has provided the scholarship.

Ms. Hindupur will assist the firm’s Corporate, Litigation and Labor & Employment practice areas from the Chicago office. She brings to Vedder three years of Human Resources experience in the consumer goods industry. As an undergraduate at Cornell University, Ms. Hindupur was Treasurer for the Society for Women and Law, and, at the University of Michigan, she currently serves on the executive boards for Res Sista Loquitur: Women of Color Coalition and the South Asian Law Students Association.

“All of these organizations have been instrumental in helping me decide what I value and prioritize as a professional woman of color,” said Ms. Hindupur. “I know that I can bring my best self to work at Vedder Price because I will be working alongside mentors who also value culture and diversity.”

Ms. Chopra will assist the Corporate practice area, particularly the Global Transportation Finance team, from the New York office. Prior to attending Vanderbilt, Ms. Chopra worked as a senior consultant at a Big Four firm in their business advisor program supporting asset-liability management for clients. She is currently a 1L representative for If/When/How: Lawyering for Reproductive Justice, and she has previously participated in and led many diverse initiatives.

“Promoting diversity is consciously recognizing that every individual’s viewpoint is shaped by a unique set of cultural, personal and professional experiences,” said Ms. Chopra. “I believe being a Diversity Scholar presents an exciting opportunity to harness the unique facets of my identity, especially my cultural identity, to collaborate closely and congenially with others who have different perspectives and approach challenges with a flexible and open-minded attitude.”

The Diversity Scholarship program was established in 2005 to further promote and enhance diversity and a culture of inclusion at Vedder Price. The program provides both a monetary scholarship and placement in the firm’s Summer Associate program. As Summer Associates, Ms. Hindupur and Ms. Sahiba will receive one-on-one training and mentorship to acclimate them to the legal profession and help guide them in their path to becoming lawyers.

“We are excited to welcome Ananya and Sahiba to the firm this summer,” said Jeanah Park, Chair of Vedder Price’s Diversity Committee. “Both bring an enormous amount of talent, academic prowess and diversity to the firm, and they are eager to learn the business of law. They exemplify exactly what we look for in our Diversity Scholars.”
