Tilted Kilt says area franchise developer misled franchisees to expect big paydays

Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery restaurants has filed suit against a company that develops Tilted Kilt franchises in northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin and northwest Indiana, claiming the developer misled potential franchise operators, opening Tilted Kilt to liability and a damaged reputation.

Former business partners are at odds over the spoils of a Chicago Transit Authority telecommunications technology project. In a complaint filed Nov. 16 in Cook County Circuit Court, HCK Group, doing business as Informity Systems, brought 10 counts against Informity Network and its president Edita Arambulo, as well as former HCK employee Cynthia Chappell.

Chicago resident Alex Turetsky, parent of a minor identified as J.T., filed a complaint in federal court in Chicago this week against the companies doing business as Osco Drug.

The former CEO and president of Intelligentsia Coffee says his former business partners owe him $15 million, which he said is the amount he is entitled to under his employment agreement with Intelligentsia following the company’s sale to Peet’s Coffee last month. On Nov. 19, Robert Buono, a former lawyer who made a fortune in real estate development before taking over management at Intelligentsia, filed suit in Cook County Circuit Court against Intelligentsia and its cofounders.

On Nov. 18, the Chicago Lighthouse Charter School sued the CPS Board of Education, asking a Cook County judge to overrule CPS’ decision to close the school.
