A woman injured at her son's graduation ceremony in 2014 is suing the school district.
Selena Maynie filed a complaint on May 29 in Cook County Circuit Court against the Crete-Monee School District 201-U Board of Education.
On May 29, 2014, Maynie was attending her son's eighth grade graduation in the gym at Crete-Monee High School. The lawsuit states that, while wearing a dress and heels, Maynie's heel became caught in a bundle of cords and cables running directly across her path. This caused her to fall and injure herself. She later needed surgery on her right thumb.
The defendant, through its agents, is cited for creating a dangerous condition and failing to protect Maynie from the condition, provide safe passage, and exercise care to protect visitors.
The plaintiff, citing personal and pecuniary injuries, seeks damages in excess of $100,000, plus costs.
