A man injured on a city bus is suing the transit authority and the driver.

Sydlow Johnson filed a complaint May 29 in Cook County Circuit Court against the Chicago Transit Authority and Derrick Williams.

At 10:17 p.m. on Aug. 7, 2014, Johnson was a passenger on a bus driven east by Williams on East 35th Street near South Rhodes Avenue. The lawsuit states that as Johnson began walking toward the front of the bus, Williams brought the bus to an abrupt stop, causing Johnson to fall and injure himself.

The defendant is cited for failing to properly slow the bus so as not to slam the brakes, warn the plaintiff that the bus was stopping, drive at a reasonable speed, and keep a proper lookout.

As a result, the lawsuit states, Johnson suffered injuries, pain and suffering, loss of a normal life, disability and disfigurement, and medical expenses.

The plaintiff seeks damages in excess of $100,000, plus costs. The plaintiff is represented by Trapp and Geller in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case no. 2015L005442.
