A female passenger has sued the Chicago Transit Authority, alleging she was injured while riding a city bus.

Veronica Lewis-Hyde filed a lawsuit May 12 in Cook County Circuit Court against the Chicago Transit Authority.

According to the complaint, on July 7, 2014, Lewis-Hyde was a passenger on a CTA bus when the driver made an abrupt steering maneuver that caused the plaintiff to fall and hit herself against various interior parts of the bus.

The defendant (by and through its driver) is cited with negligently: operating the bus; failing to keep proper control; failing to keep a proper lookout; failed to obey traffic codes; causing the bus to "jerk, lurch and/or violently move;" and failing to provide Lewis-Hyde with a safe means of transportation.

As a result, the suit says, the plaintiff suffered injury, pain and suffering, incurred medical expense, and sustained lost income and employability.

Lewis-Hyde seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs. She is represented by attorney Donald A. LeBoyer in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number: 2015L004865.
