A Cook County resident filed suit against associated municipal entities and an insurance carrier for alleged negligence in a 2014 incident.
Rosalinda Espedido brought a lawsuit May 11 in Cook County Circuit Court against Schaumburg Township District Library; Schaumburg Township; the village of Schaumburg; and Libraries of Illinois Risk Agency, citing premises liability in a May 2014 accident.
The complaint cites that Espedido was lawfully on the premises of the Schaumburg public library located at 130 S. Roselle Road on May 11, 2014. According to the filing, the defendant had notice of a slippery substance on its floor near the entrance which constituted a dangerous condition.
The suit states that the plaintiff slipped and fell to the floor while walking through the entrance. The complaint maintains that the defendant should have known of the slippery substance; and was negligent in failing to inspect the area; allowing liquid to remain there; failing to warn the plaintiff of its existence and restrict pedestrian traffic to avoid accidents; and improperly operated, managed and maintained the facilities.
Espedido claims permanent injuries, pain, suffering, disability, lost wages and earning capacity, loss of a normal life and medical expenses.
The plaintiff seeks judgment against all defendants, damages in an amount deemed appropriate by the court, and attorney’s fees and costs. She is represented in the case by Patrick Anderson of Healy Scanlon in Chicago.
