A woman and her husband have sued the doctor, his practice and the medical institution that oversaw her aneurysm surgery.

Victor Tracy, as power of attorney for Anne Tracy and himselg, filed a lawsuit June 2 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Robert K. Erickson, Lake County Neurosurgery and Advocate Condell Medical Center, citing malpractice.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 27, 2008, Anne Tracy went to the emergency room at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, complaining about acute onset head plain, neck pain and vomiting, and, after testing, Dr. Erickson performed a cerebral aneurysm clipping, which was complicated by bleeding. The next day, the lawsuit states, Anne Tracy still exhibited right side weakness, right facial weakness and aphasia.

The suit cites the defendants with failing to: confer with a neurointerventionalist; assess whether coiling was a safer approach; obtain a preoperative formal neuro endovascular consultation; perform the clipping procedure; properly clip the aneurysm; obtain informed consent from Tracy; obtain a postoperative standard cerebral angiogram; refer the patient where multi-modality therapy was provided; recognize the significance of Tracy's neurological deficits; and failing to diagnose and treat the etiology.

As a result, the lawsuit states, she is suffering permanent injuries, pain and suffering and medical expenses.

Anne Tracy seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs. Her husband, citing loss of consortium, also seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs.

The plaintiffs are represented by attorneys Mark E. McNabola and Karen McNulty Enright, of the McNabola Law Group in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number: 2015L005579.
