A pedestrian injured when a car struck him while crossing the street is suing the driver.

William Thomas filed a complaint June 5 in Cook County Circuit Court against Michael Palmore.

On July 4, 2013, Palmore was driving east on Madison Street near Lavernge Avenue in Chicago; Thomas was a pedestrian crossing Madison Street from south to north at Laverge Avenue.

Though the plaintiff was on the crosswalk, Palmore struck him with his vehicle, the lawsuit states. The defendant is cited for carelessness and negligence for failing to operate the vehicle safely, keep a proper lookout, stop at a red light, decrease his speed to avoid a collision, yield the right of way, honk his horn, stop before colliding with a pedestrian, and exercise due care. As a result, Thomas suffered serious injury, pain and suffering, loss of a normal life and medical expenses.

The plaintiff seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs. The plaintiff is represented by Marc J. Shuman and Associates Ltd. of Chicago.
