A female patient whose cancer diagnosis allegedly was delayed for an excessive amount of time is suing the medical institution that she says should have caught it earlier.

Christine Dinwiddle and her husband Alfred Dinwiddle filed a lawsuit June 4 in Cook County Circuit Court against University of Chicago Health and Hospitals.

According to the complaint, on June 4, 2013, the hospital discharged Christine Dinwiddle after discovering a right lung mass in an X-ray. The hospital and its staff, the suit says, failed to inform her about the mass, or inform her it was recommended she undergo a CT scan to further investigate the mass.

On March 2, 2015, Dinwiddle finally was diagnosed with having a large right lung mass, the lawsuit states. The suit says this delay caused Dinwiddle to sustain: prolonged injuries; pain and suffering; disability; medical expense; loss of a normal life; and an increased likelihood of a shorter life expectancy.

The Dinwiddles seek damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs. They are represented by attorney Larry R. Rogers Jr. of Power, Rogers & Smith in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L005708.
