Estate sues over allegedly fatal neglect in nursing home

A woman's estate is suing over alleged neglect that occurred before her death.

Rosa Mendoza, as administrator of the estate of Genoveva Verduzco, filed a complaint  June 1 in Cook County Circuit Court against Norridge Gardens LLC, doing business as the Norridge Healthcare and Rehabilitation Centre.

The deceased, diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer's disease, was a resident of the defendant's facility. The lawsuit states that, before her death, she suffered a long series of falls, unexplained injuries and illnesses, pressure ulcers, bruises, cuts, and several periods of unexplained weight loss.

As a result, the lawsuit states, she died on July 31, 2013.

The plaintiff, citing violations of the Nursing Home Care Act, seeks damages for the deceased in excess of $100,000, plus costs.

The plaintiff is represented by Catherine D. Battista and Priti Nemani of Argento and Battista LLC in Elgin.
