A Chicago woman whose car allegedly was stolen is suing her insurer for denying her claim.
Korell T. Johnson, of Chicago, filed a lawsuit May 12 in Cook County Circuit Court against State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co., alleging bad faith, breach of contract and fraud.
According to the complaint, Johnson was the owner of a 2008 GMC Yukon that was insured by Stare Farm, and on May 6, 2014, while visiting her sister's home at 5138 W. Hirsch St., Chicago, Johnson noticed the vehicle had been stolen.
The suit says Johnson called and filed a report with the Chicago Police Department, then contacted State Farm to file a claim. On May 30, 2014, State Farm reassigned the claim to Sheri Harkins of the insurer's special investigative unit, the suit says, and on Oct. 24, 2014, State Farm denied liability to Johnson, turning down her claim.
Johnson seeks damages in excess of $80,000, plus court costs. She is represented by Vaziri Law in Chicago.
