Worker alleges asbestos-related disease

A former storekeeper and salesman with mesothelioma is suing over his alleged exposure to asbestos during his career.

Leon C. and Diana L. Zander filed a a lawsuit May 8 in Cook County Circuit Court against dozens of companies, alleging secondary exposure and strict liabiiity.

According to the complaint, from 1964 to 1979, Leon C. Zander worked as a storekeeper and salesman at various locations, where he was exposed to asbestos-containing products made, shipped, sold, marketed or used by the defendants.

As a result, the lawsuit states, he was diagnosed Jan. 20 with the asbestos-related disease mesothelioma. 

The Zanders seek damages in excess of the court's jurisdictional limit. They are represented by attorney Lawrence R. Weisler of Cooney and Conway in Chicago.
