Woman blames gas station for slip on icy pavement

Cook cty cthse 1

A Cook County woman who alleges serious injuries after falling on icy pavement is suing a gas station.

Margery M. Walter filed a lawsuit June 10 in Cook County Circuit Court against Speedway, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 5, Walter was lawfully on the premises of the Speedway Gas Station at 1021 E. Rand Road in Arlington Heights, when she slipped and fell due to an unnatural accumulation of ice and snow on the pavement. The suit states that Speedway breached its legal duty to provide and maintain a safe environment for the public on its exterior parking lot premises by failing to salt, inspect, illuminate and clean the dangerous area, as well as warn the public of the hazard.

The plaintiff alleges severe and permanent injuries have directly and proximately caused her physical and mental pain and suffering, medical expenses and limitation in attending to her usual affairs and occupations. The suit says she anticipates additional medical needs in the future.

Walter seeks damages in excess of $50,000, attorney fees and costs. She is represented by attorney Michael Concannon of Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L0005866.
