A woman filed suit against a doctor and his Chicago beauty spa business claiming a 2013 hair removal procedure left her with dermatological injuries.

Khushboo Joshi filed a complaint against Irvin M. Wiesman and Dr. Irv’s Body Shop LLC, doing business as Natural Beauty Med Spa, on June 17 in Cook County Circuit Court claiming  the proprietor misrepresented himself as a cosmetic surgeon in a June 2013 procedure that purportedly resulted in abnormalities on the patient’s skin.

According to the filing, the defendant offered hair removal services among other treatments at his business, located at 721 North Dearborn in Chicago. Joshi claims that when she requested hair removal on her lower back on June 18, 2013, the procedure was done in such a way as to cause personal, pecuniary and permanent injuries.

Alleging professional negligence, the suit states that the defendants failed to properly train and supervise staff in order to avoid harming, burning or scarring patients including the plaintiff. The complaint additionally states that the defendants were responsible for making sure that their equipment was properly calibrated and in working order.

The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus attorneys’ fees and costs. She is represented in the case by Robert Duncan, of Duncan Law Group in Chicago.
