A Cook County man is suing two construction companies, alleging breach of agreement in a home remodeling project.
Mohammed Alwatik filed a lawsuit June 15 in Cook County Circuit Court against C. Roman Construction Corp., and Sergio Talonia and Maria Jaramillo, doing business as GIO Remodeling, alleging work he commissioned was done improperly.
According to the filing, Alwatik owns a two-story building containing three dwelling units at 2823 W. Walnut St., Chicago, and he entered into an agreement with Roman for construction and remodeling work on his building in November or December 2013. The suit says after obtaining permits for alterations, Roman subcontracted the work to GIO, whose principals Talonia and Jaramillo submitted a proposal of $56,000. The lawsuit says Alwatik accepted the terms of the proposal and made payments to the defendants from October 2013 through January 2015.
The plaintiff maintains GIO ceased working on his building in January despite several attempts on his part to have them continue. He says the defendants grew increasingly uncooperative, Alwatik alleges he was forced to hire others to complete the work, and he later discovered the work done up to that point was substandard and had to be redone.
He alleges of breach of contract and misrepresentation.
Alwatik seeks actual and punitive damages in excess of $50,000, plus attorney fees and costs. He is represented by attorney Michael Childers of Childers & Windham in Chicago.
