A patient is suing a doctor and his practice for an appendectomy that allegedly left the man with a damaged nerve.
Marcos Arenas filed a complaint June 19 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. John White and Midwest Surgery, alleging malpractice.
According to the complaint, on June 21, 2013, Arenas came under the care of the defendants for acute appendicitis, requiring an appendectomy. The suit says the defendants were negligent and careless in failing to swiftly and correctly identify the ilioinguinal nerve during the surgical procedure, protect said nerve and not causing the nerve damage during the procedure.
As a result, the suit says the plaintiff suffered injuries, lost wages, pain and suffering, medical expenses and physical and emotional trauma.
Arenas seeks damages in excess of $100,000, plus costs. He is represented by attorney Edward G. Proctor Jr. of Munday, Nathan and Schulkin in Chicago.
