A former laborer is suing dozens of companies, alleging his contracted an asbestos-related disease during his industrial career.

John Wachtor filed a lawsuit June 18 in Cook County Circuit Court against dozens of industrial companies, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Wachtor worked from about 1940 to 1990 as a laborer, carpenter, steelworker and welder at various locations and came into contact with asbestos-containing materials made, distributed, marketed, used or sold by the defendants.

As a result of this exposure, the suit says, Wachtor learned June 30, 2014, that he'd contracted the asbestos-related disease known as asbestosis.

Wachtor seeks damages in excess of the court's jurisdictional limitations, plus costs. He is represented by attorney James R. Hopkinson of Cooney and Conway in Chicago.
