Man's estate blames former employers for asbestos-related disease

The estate of a man who died of mesothelioma is suing dozens of companies that allegedly used or brought asbestos-containing materials to market.

Bette Unger, as administrator of the estate of Lawrence Unger, filed a lawsuit June 16 in Cook County Circuit Court against dozens of companies and businesses, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, from 1953 to 1987, Lawrence Unger was employed in various positions, including HVAC technician, at a range of locations where he came into contact with asbestos-containing products made, distributed, marketed, used or sold by the defendants. The suit says on July 7, 2014, shortly before his death, he learned he had contracted mesothelioma, an asbestos-related disease.

Bette Unger seeks damages in excess of the court's jurisdictional limit, plus costs.  She is represented by attorney Charles A. Porretta of Cooney and Conway in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L006090.
