A customer is suing Jewel, alleging a fall at a local grocery store caused her injuries.

Phyllis Statkiewicz filed a lawsuit June 15 in Cook County Circuit Court against Jewel Food Stores Inc., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on July 13, 2014, Statkiewicz was a customer at the Jewel Food Store at 1314 N. Paulina St., Chicago, when she slipped on a puddle of water on the ground and fell, injuring herself. The suit alleges Jewel allowed a dangerous condition to persist, maintained its facility in a dangerous condition, and caused a dangerous condition to exist and for failing to remedy the condition, maintain its premises, warn Statkiewicz of a hazardous condition and clean the floor.

As a result, the lawsuit states, the plaintiff suffered personal, pecuniary and permanent injuries and damages.

Statkiewicz seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs. She is represented by attorney Benjamin B. Kelly of the Vrdolyak Law Group in Chicago.
