A Cook County woman filed suit against a hotel business and its employees, claiming negligent endangerment in a 2013 motor vehicle collision allegedly resulting in personal injuries.

Yvonne Valbrun filed a lawsuit against Hotel Hospitality Inc. (HHI) of Schaumburg, Howard Johnson doing business as Regency Inn of Addison, Jerry Thompson and Alejandro Guerrerro on June 18 in Cook County Circuit Court regarding the June 2013 accident.

According to the filing, Valbrun was a passenger in an HHI-operated shuttle van driven by Thompson on or about June 19, 2013, for the purpose of transporting hotel guests at the Regency. The suit states that Thompson’s van violently struck an auto driven by Guerrerro.

The plaintiff alleges negligence, maintaining that Thompson operated the vehicle erratically and dangerously; that he failed to stay in his lane, notify other drivers of his intent to change lanes, stop or slow when a collision was imminent, keep a lookout, maintain a sufficient distance from other vehicles, and keep guests/passengers safe.

Valbrun alleges bodily injuries, pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of earnings and earning capacity, disability and loss of normal life. The suit states that HHI and Regency were negligent in screening, hiring, training and managing competent employees.

The plaintiff seeks damages in excess of $50,000 plus attorneys’ fees and costs. She is represented by Brett Manchel of Levinson & Stefani in Chicago.
