Worker sues Covenant Health Care over workplace tripping injuries

Daley plazaresized

A worker who fell on a job site while working at Covenant Village of Northbrook is suing the facility's owner, alleging failure to provide a safe place to work.

Daniel and Olivia Gonzalez filed a complaint June 23 in Cook County Circuit Court against Covenant Health Care Center, alleging premises liability and negligence.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 2, 2014, Daniel Gonzalez was hired as a sheet metal worker by Edwards Engineering at Covenant Village, 2625 Techny Road, Northbrook. The work, the lawsuit states, "required workers on the job site to hand carry tools, materials and equipment that was integral to the work duties of the tradesmen across ground which was wet, muddy and covered with ruts, thereby creating a slipping, tripping and falling hazard."

As a result, Gonzalez fell and sustained injuries, pain and suffering, and medical expenses, the lawsuit states.

The suit alleges the defendant failed to properly oversee the site, make reasonable inspections, properly schedule, sequence and coordinate the work, properly protect workers from falling, supervise the ground around the construction site, provide warnings or signs to indicate hazardous conditions, provide a safe pathway and provide a safe way to carry the tools and equipment to the site.

Daniel Gonzalez seeks damages of more than $150,000, plus costs. His wife, Olivia, alleging loss of consortium, seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs.  They are represented by attorney Michael C. Terranova, of Goldberg Weisman Cairo in Chicago.
