A Cook County woman is suing a driver, alleging vehicular negligence when she was struck by his car in a Chicago crosswalk.
Patricia A. Brown filed a lawsuit June 19 against Muhammad Amin in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging vehicular negligence in the 2014 incident.
According to the complaint, on Dec. 15, 2014, Brown was legally crossing Oakley Street on foot when Amin struck her in the roadway intersection while he was driving his vehicle north on Oakley. The suit states the defendant violated traffic regulations when he failed to yield the right of way, neglected to observe and obey an intersection stop sign, maintain a proper speed, brake adequately, sound his horn and stop his automobile in time to avoid striking the plaintiff.
The plaintiff alleges she suffered permanent severe injuries that hinder her from performing her usual activities. The suit says she sustained pain and anguish along with medical expenses.
Brown seeks judgment in an amount to satisfy the jurisdictional limitation of the court, plus attorney fees and costs. She is represented by attorney Melanie VanOverloop of Anesi, Ozmon, Rodin, Novak & Kohen in Chicago.
