A woman has filed a defamation suit against a beauty supply store, the owner of which she claims loudly and falsely accused her of theft.
On June 24, Olashile Moore brought her complaint in Cook County Circuit Court against Elim Wig and Beauty Supply store, 4631 N. Broadway St., Chicago.
The complaint alleges Moore was in the store on March 21 when the owner of the store confronted her, claiming she had a video recording of Moore shoplifting a “jar of cream” from the store.
Moore repeatedly denied this accusation, which was allegedly heard by others in the store.
The owner eventually showed Moore the recording, and Moore said the woman in the recording was not her. When the owner of the store allegedly continued to assert Moore was the shoplifter in the recording, Moore called the police to the store.
She said the police officer advised her to press the matter in civil court.
Moore’s complaint asserts a count each of defamation of character, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress against the store owner.
Moore is requesting damages of more than $50,000, plus attorney’s fees and costs.
She is represented in the action by attorney Paul O. Otubusin, of Otubusin & Associates, of Chicago.
