Worker alleges former employers caused asbestos-related illness

A former worker with mesothelioma is suing dozens of companies that made or brought to market any asbestos-containing materials.

David W. Otte filed a complaint June 26 in Cook County Circuit Court against dozens of companies, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, from 1944 to 1979, Otte worked as a maintenance mechanic and general laborer at various locations, where he was made to ingest or be exposed to asbestos made, marketed, distributed, sold or used by the defendants.

On April 27, the lawsuit states, Otte learned he was suffering from the fatal asbestos-related disease mesothelioma.

Otte seeks damages in excess of the court's jurisdictional limits, plus costs. He is represented by attorney Timothy G. Martin of Cooney and Conway in Chicago.
