Former worker's estate says asbestos exposure caused man's death

A former worker's estate is suing dozens of businesses, alleging his death was caused by exposure to asbestos.

Lottie McMillon, as administrator of the estate of Jessie L. Campbell, filed a lawsuit June 26 in Cook County Circuit Court against dozens of companies, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, from 1942 to 1977 Campbell worked in various positions and locations where he was exposed to asbestos-containing materials made, marketed, sold, distributed or used by the defendants.

As a result, the suit says, it was discovered during a Sept. 14, 2014, autopsy, that the cause of death was the asbestos-related disease of lung cancer.

McMillon seeks damages in excess of the court's jurisdictional limits. She is represented by attorney James R. Hopkinson of Cooney and Conway in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L006524.
