A bicyclist is suing a driver and vehicle owner for injuries suffered in an accident in 2013.
Jordan Schlife filed a complaint on June 24 in Cook County Circuit Court against Shardae N. Harris and Venita Vaughn.
On Dec. 3, 2013, the lawsuit states, the plaintiff was riding a bicycle southeast on Milwaukee Avenue at Chicago Avenue in Chicago, when Harris was driving a vehicle owned by Vaughn in the same direction and struck Schlife.
The driver (and owner as responsible party) is cited with carelessness and negligence for causing an accident; failing to exercise due care; turning right in front of a bike; turning without signaling; and operating heedlessly and without caution to endanger Schlife. As a result, Schlife suffered injury, pain and suffering, medical expenses and loss of normal life.
The plaintiff, citing negligence, willful and wanton conduct, and vicarious liability, seeks damages in excess of $150,000, plus costs.
The plaintiff is represented by Brendan H. Kevenides of the Freeman, Kevenides Law Firm LLC in Chicago.
