Estate of former laborer alleges asbestos-related death

The estate of a former laborer is suing dozens of businesses that made and brought to market and the workplace asbestos-containing materials that allegedly contributed to his eventual death.

Raymond S. Seeley, as executor of the estate of Cecil R. Seeley, filed a lawsuit June 12 in Cook County Circuit Court against dozens of businesses, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, from 1954 to 1978, Cecil Seeley worked as a laborer at different locations, where he was exposed to asbestos-containing materials sold, made, marketed, distributed or used by the defendants. As a result, Seeley learned Feb. 17, 2014, he was suffering from the asbestos-related disease mesothelioma, which eventually caused his death July 3, 2014, the lawsuit says.

Raymond Seeley seeks damages in excess of court's jurisdictional limit, plus costs. He is represented by attorney David O. Barrett of Cooney and Conway of Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L005000.
