Pedestrian alleges negligent driver caused injuries

A female pedestrian is suing a driver she alleges struck her with a vehicle as she was leaving a Northbrook store.

Therese Harris filed a complaint June 11 in Cook County Circuit Court against Rebecca Walker Knight, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on May 8, 2014, Harris was a pedestrian who'd just left Whole Foods Market at 840 Willow Road, Northbrook, when Walker Knight made a left turn into the aisle in front of the store and struck Harris. The suit charges Walker Knight with negligence and carelessness in failing to operate her vehicle safely, avoid colliding with a pedestrian, drive at a safe speed, decrease her speed to avoid contact, and beginning a left turn without yielding the right of way.

As a result of the accident, the lawsuit states, Harris suffered permanent and substantial injuries, which required surgery, and also experienced pain and suffering, loss of a normal life and medical expense.

Harris seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs. She is represented by attorney Michael J. Frost of Vinkler McArdle Frost in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L005933.
