Food company sues over $72,784 worth of mayo

A Maryland food corporation has filed a lawsuit seeking more than $72,000 it claims a Cook County company owes if for mayonnaise with lime juice.

Mojave Foods Corp. brought its breach of contract suit against La Tropicana Food Inc. July 24 in the Cook County Circuit Court.

The suit claims that La Tropicana placed three orders with Mojave in 2012 for $125,220.60 worth of mayo and that its checks were either returned due to insufficient funds or because a stop payment was placed on the checks.

In 2013, the suit alleges the defendant made a few electronic payments to the plaintiff, but that it still has a remaining balance of $72,784.80.

“Plaintiff has made repeated requests for the balance owed,” Mojave asserts in its suit that also seeks an award of attorneys’ fees and costs.

William M. Dunn of Gordon & Rees LLP represents the plaintiff.
