A daughter is suing the hospital and the treating physicians after her father died while in the hospital's care.
Kristen Hearn, special administrator of the Estate of Kenneth Coleman, filed a lawsuit Oct. 15 in Cook County Circuit Court against Advocate Health and Hospitals Corp., doing business as Advocate Christ Hospital and Medical Center, Dr. Daniel Girzadas Jr. and Dr. Alissa K. Gottesman, citing the negligence and the wrongful death and survival acts.
According to the complaint, on July 30, 2012, Kenneth Coleman suffered an asthma attack at his home and was transported by ambulance to Christ Hospital. He arrived at the emergency department complaining of difficult breathing and was taken in for a CT scan and later a chest x-ray.
The complaint states that Coleman was administered a 10mg Labetolo IV and was moved into the hallway on a cart. The complaint further states that he experienced difficulty breathing and needed his inhaler after which he was found to be wheezing and gasping for air and was moved into a room for treatment, eventually losing consciousness.
After failed attempts at intubation, medication, and CPR Coleman was pronounced dead.
The plaintiff is alleging the hospital and treating physicians were negligent in their care of Coleman.
Hearn is seeking damages in excess of the jurisdictional limit. She is being represented in the case by attorney Beverly P. Spearman of Cochran, Cherry, Givens, Smith & Montgomery LLC.
