A man is suing L.A. Fitness after he was allegedly injured by a broken basketball backboard.

William Campbell filed a lawsuit Oct. 11 in Cook County Circuit Court against L.A. Fitness International LLC, Fitness & Sports Clubs LLC and Fitness International LLC, citing premises liability.

Campbell says that on Dec. 22, 2011, he was at L.A. Fitness, 1101 S. Canal St. in Chicago, when he was cut by a cracked, broken and jagged basketball backboard, causing injuries. He claims the defendants were negligent in failing to exercise reasonable care and failing to warn members of the dangerous condition.

Campbell is seeking damages in excess of the jurisdictional limit. He is being represented in the case by attorneys at Pope & Jaburek P.C.
