Providence Englewood School Corp. accuses city of Chicago of negligence

Arnold

Providence Englewood School Corp. filed a negligence suit in the Cook County Circuit Court on Oct. 21 against K.R. Miller Contractors Inc., Greenbriar Mechanical Systems Inc. and the City of Chicago.

According to Providence, its campus at 6516 S. Ashland Ave. in Chicago was water damaged as a result of the defendants' conduct.

The suit states that K.R. Miller provided contracting and construction service to the state of Illinois and Greenbriar provided plumbing services. Providence claims there was a four-inch water line that connected the school to a water main owned and controlled by the City of Chicago.

Greenbriar was to replace the four-inch line with an eight-inch line, but the state alleges that in the process of doing so, the four-inch line broke, causing water to back up and eventually enter the school.

Providence claims the water caused serious damage to the premises and the property therein. It is seeking more than $98,783.54 in damages.

Providence is represented by Chicago attorneys Matthew R. Cohen and Jeffrey C. Arnold.
