A couple is suing a trio of doctors, claiming they failed to diagnose signs of stroke in the husband who suffered a stroke days after seeing the physicians.
Peter Bokos and Michele Bokos filed a lawsuit Oct. 22 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Byron Starr, Dr. Alan Shepard, Dr. Herbert Becker Jr., Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation and Larson Eye Center Ltd., citing medical malpractice.
According to the complaint, on Oct. 11, 2011, Peter Bokos went to Dr. Starr complaining of an episode of weakness and subjectual visual disturbances, which allegedly are signs and symptoms of transient ischemic attack, as well as a precursor to a stroke.
During the appointment, Starr ordered a Holter monitor for Bokos and then discharged him.
The complaint states that on Oct. 20, Bokos was seen by Shepard, a neurologist, for complaints of a migraine headache, subjectual visual disturbances, visual field defect, dizziness and giddiness.
On Oct. 21, the suit states, Bokos was seen by Becker at Larson Eye Center for the visual disturbances. According to the complaint , on Oct. 23, 2011, Bokos suffered an embolic stroke and was admitted to Hinsdale Hospital.
Peter and Michele Bokos are seeking damages in excess of $50,000. They are being represented in the case by attorney Bradley Z. Schulman of Motherway & Napleton LLP.
