Illinois Bone and Joint Institute and doctor sued after wrongfully administering medication

A local doctor and medical institute are being sued over claims a patient improperly received medication that resulted in injury.

Gilbert-Patrick Barrientos filed a lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court on Oct. 22 against Dr. Erin Arnold and Illinois Bone and Joint Institute LLC, citing professional negligence.

The complaint states Arnold was an employee of the institute on Oct. 24, 2011, when Barrientos saw her and she discussed changing his medication, which required a blood test.

The suit states that despite the blood test indicating Barrientos could not safely take the medication, Arnold ordered and administered the new medication. As a result, Barrientos alleges he experienced acute renal failure and had a prolonged hospital stay.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of the jurisdictional minimum. He is represented in the case by Bradley Z. Schulman of Motherway & Napleton LLP in Chicago.
