A woman is suing a nursing home over alleged injuries her now-deceased brother suffered while in their care.
Idella Minor, as special administrator of the Estate of Tom Carr, filed a lawsuit Oct. 31 in Cook County Circuit Court against Jackson Square Skilled Nursing & Living Center.
According to the complaint, Jackson Square owned and operated a nursing home at 5130 W. Jackson Blvd. in Chicago, where Tom Carr was a resident on Oct. 28, 2012. He was suffering from dementia and was mentally incapacitated,. the suit states.
The complaint alleges that while a resident of Jackson Square, Carr was at risk of falling and the defendant allegedly knew Carr was at risk for falls but failed to have a bed alarm or put Carr's mattress in a low position.
Due to the defendant's alleged violations of the state's Nursing Home Care Act, the suit asserts Carr suffered injuries which resulted in his death on May 3.
Minor, Carr's sister, is seeking damages in excess of $50,000. She is represented iby attorney Matthew L. Baker.
