Woman sues school board over injury daughter sustained at carnival

Scales2

The mother of an Anthony Overton Elementary School student is suing over claims that her daughter was injured while at a school carnival.

Keisha Steenes, as mother and next friend of her minor daughter Dominque, filed a lawsuit Nov. 5 in the Circuit Court of Cook County against the Chicago Board of Education, Chicago Public Schools and The Fun Ones Moon Jump Inc., citing negligence.

The plaintiff alleges that on June 10, 2011, Dominque sustained injuries while at the school carnival. The suit states that she was in an inflatable boxing ring and punched with the large boxing gloves, which caused her to fall onto a broken ladder and sustain serious injuries.

Steenes contends the defendants failed to operate the carnival in a safe manner, failed to monitor the event, failed to aid and assist students, failed to utilize safety procedures and failed to inspect the inflatable boxing ring for defects.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $30,000. She is being represented by Conway Law Office PC.
