Man sues after using blocked exit at Metra station

Metra

Duane Kuipers filed suit Nov. 5 in the Cook County Circuit Court against the Northeast IL Regional Commuter Railroad Corp., Rail Division of the Regional Transportation Authority, doing business as Metra, Millennium Station at Randolph, City of Chicago, Chicago Park District and Beitler Millennium Station LLC.

According to Kuipers, he got off the Metra in May at the Millennium Park stop and was walking to the exit when he discovered his path was blocked by a chain. Kuipers attempted to step over the chain to leave the station when he tripped, stumbled and fell.

Kuipers is now suing the defendants for negligence, accusing them of failing to provide a safe walkway for commuters leaving the train station.

He is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and being represented by Chicago attorney Howard Schaffner.
