Raised manhole at construction site leads to lawsuit

Scales2

John H. Jackson filed a lawsuit Nov. 6 in the Cook County Circuit Court against the City of Chicago and K-Five Construction Corp. over injuries he claims he sustained after falling off his motorcycle.

According to the suit, Jackson was traveling down the 1100 block of South Halsted Street in July, when he hit a raised manhole and fell off his motorcycle.

K-Five construction, the suit states, was performing work on the left turn lane on the southbound side of the street and failed to post any signage or warning of the dangerous condition.

Jackson claims the defendants were negligent in maintaining the work site and seeks to hold them liable for his injuries.

He is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is represented by Chicago attorney Fred I. Benjamin.
