Advocate Sherman Hospital faces medical malpractice suit

Brian murphy

A local hospital and two doctors are being sued over claims they deviated from the standard of care.

Jean and William Scharf filed a lawsuit Oct. 24 in Cook County Circuit Court against Sherman Hospital, Sherman Health Systems, Advocate Sherman Hospital, Advocate Sherman Health Systems, Dr. Cynthia Steimle and Dr. Richard Park, citing medical malpractice and loss of consortium.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants deviated from the standard of care and caused Jean Scharf to experience acute renal failure.

According to the complaint, Jean Scharf advised the defendants she had an iodinated radiocontrast dye allergy on June 17, 2010. She underwent surgery on June 22, 2010 at Advocate Sherman Hospital at 1425 N. Randall Road in Elgin.

During the surgery, the suit asserts that iodinated radiocontrast dye was used and caused injury to Jean Scharf's kidney and brain.

The plaintiffs are seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and are represented by Chicago attorney Brian Murphy of Hofeld and Schaffner.
