A local hospital is being sued over claims a patient received inadequate medical care resulting in additional injury.

Scott Witt filed a medical malpractice lawsuit Oct. 22 in Cook County Circuit Court against Advocate North Side Health Network, doing business as Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

According to the suit, Witt went to the defendant's emergency room on June 6, 2010, after he was struck in the face with a hockey puck. He alleges that he was discharged with instructions to follow up with his internist, but was never told to follow up with a plastic surgeon or ENT.

The plaintiff contends the defendant was negligent for failing to obtain an ENT or plastic surgery consult and negligent for failing to instruct Witt to to follow up with within 48 hours.

As a result of the alleged negligence, Witt claims he began to notice differences in the appearance of his injury area in December 2011.

He is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and is represented by Bradley Z. Schulman of Motherway and Napleton in Chicago.
