Village of Wilmette named in lawsuit over fallen tree

Francismurphy

Janice LaRosa and Sarah Snodgrass filed suit Nov. 15 in the Cook County Circuit Court on Nov. 15 against the Village of Wilmette and Jeremy Schwartz.

According to the suit LaRosa and Snodgrass were injured in November 2012 when a tree fell on top of their car at the intersection of 16th Street and Wilmette Avenue in Wilmette.

LaRosa and Snodgrass claim the defendants had removed some sidewalk slabs after the roots of a tree had grown under and broke them. The defendants allegedly cut the invasive roots before placing the new slabs down.

The plaintiffs claim they sustained injuries from the accident. They have accused the defendants of negligence and now seek to hold them liable for their injures.

They are seeking more than $50,000 in damages and are being represented by Chicago attorney Francis Patrick Murphy.
