Charletha Copes filed suit in the Cook County Circuit Court on Oct. 29 against Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corp., doing business as Metra.

According to Copes, she was injured at a Metra station in early December 2011. Copes claims she was at the Metra station located at East 71st Street in Stoney Island in Chicago, where she slipped on ice and fell after she crossed the tracks.

Copes alleges that Metra was negligent in failing to provide a safe platform for train passengers to stand. Copes claims to have injured her back and legs and now seeks to hold Metra liable for her injuries.

Copes is seeking more than $50,000 in damages. She is being represented by Chicago attorney John S. Bishof Jr.
