CTA sued after woman in wheelchair falls while exiting bus

A wheelchair-bound woman is suing Chicago's transit authority after she fell off a bus ramp, claiming the driver failed to completely lower the ramp.

Takita Hightie filed a lawsuit Nov. 25 in Cook County Circuit Court against the Chicago Transit Authority, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 6, 2012, Hightie was wheelchair bound and on a CTA bus at the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and Leavitt Street. While on her wheelchair, she claims she tried to exit the bus, but the bus driver failed to lower the wheel chair ramp all the way to the ground, causing her wheelchair to fall off of the ramp on fall onto the ground.

The complaint alleges the defendant was negligent in its care of Hightie by failing to fully lower the bus's ramp, among other claims.

Hightie is seeking damages in excess of $50,000. She is being represented in the case by attorneys at the Law Offices of Todd A. Heller & Associates.
