Ronald Saxon filed suit Oct. 30 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Sterling Jewelers Inc., doing business as Kay Jewelers.
According to the suit, Saxon was injured when visiting Kay Jewelers in May 2012. He claims he was visiting the store at 1001 W. North Ave. in Chicago when he tripped and fell on an elevated surface near the entrance.
Saxon contends he was distracted by balloons hanging in front of the store which is why he did not see the deviation between the sidewalk and the entrance. He accuses Kay Jewelers of negligently maintaining its property and failing to warn store patrons of the unsafe condition.
Saxon is seeking more than $50,000 in damages. He is being represented by Chicago law firm Douglas C. Dorn P.C.
